Quinto Communications has supplied Australia’s Racing NSW with an AbonAir wireless RF video solution, capable of providing live pictures from stables paddock and the racecourse seamlessly and which moves around the racing coverage area.
Racing NSW is the regulating body for thoroughbred horse racing in New South Wales and is responsible for the control of 40 race tracks throughout the metropolitan and country areas of the state.
According to Racing NSW, its team looked at various aspects of wireless coverage, and found the AbonAir system to be an ideal mid-range solution for its regional and country facilities.
Quinto Communications provided an Abonair AB412 evaluation system which Racing NSW successfully tested as part of the roll-out of its new broadcast facilities.
The Abonair system achieved the required range of coverage and desired picture quality, and this convinced Racing NSW to purchase of 10 AbonAir AB412 wireless systems, which were integrated with Racing NSW’s fleet of new OB trucks.
“With such wide coverage areas, we had to ensure we had rock-steady links with no fading or other artifacts,” said Tom Pavicic, CEO of Quinto Communications.
“The key to the success of the project was the deployment of sector antennas combined with fibre-optic coverage extenders (FCEs) to cover the racecourses. The system is now so flexible that any time in the future, Racing NSW can deploy additional FCEs to cover additional areas of the tracks”
