SK Telecom (SKT), a South Korean telecommunication company, has signed a partnership deal with Riot Games Korea, an eSports event organiser, to sponsor and broadcast League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK)till 2020.
The partnership is aimed to promote SK Telecom’s 5G brand, through placement of its 5GX logo and the introduction of a range of live interactions such as experiential photo-shoot area during the event.
Instead of just seeing the commentator’s screen, SK Telecom’s 5GX Multi-view can enable users to livestream up to 10 different UHD screen plays, on top of the main broadcast video simultaneously.
Furthermore, users can magnify the image on their touchscreen devices up to four times without degrading the image quality.
Ryu Young-Sang, vice-president and head of mobile network operator of SK Telecom said: “Esports is one of the key areas where 5G can truly make a difference…SK Telecom will realise a new level of customer experience by combining its 5G-based immersive media technologies with League of Legends (LoL), one of the most popular games in the world.”
The two companies are also in talks to provide live augment reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) broadcast of the 2019 LCK Summer split in June 2019.
SK Telecom is also reported to be developing immersive views to engage and enrich customers’ viewing experience. For instance, Oksusu viewers can sink into the atmosphere of the game arena, with a VR headset and in the comfort of their own home.
