South Korean satellite broadcast operator, KT Skylife, has selected Alticast’s Ambient TV platform for the delivery of its over-the-top (OTT) service, Telebee.
Alticast Ambient TV platform helps to push KT Skyline into the OTT and TV Everywhere markets
KT Skylife, a satellite broadcast operator based in South Korea, has adopted Alticast’s Ambient TV platform for its over-the-top (OTT) service, Telebee. The turnkey platform, according to Alticast, will provide KT Skylife a competitive edge over Netflix, Hulu and other subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) services.
Using Ambient TV, KT Skylife is able to increase app creation flexibility, and build client applications for iOS and Android devices, as well as Linux-based and HTML5/RDK set-top boxes (STBs). Additionally, KT Skylife is able to access developers’ information — including programming schedules, video-on-demand (VoD) catalogue and user preferences — stored within the TV platform.
Shinho Ryu, head of business development at KT Skylife, commented: “Ambient TV enables us to create new service opportunities. Working closely with Alticast has expedited KT Skylife’s entry into the OTT and TV Everywhere markets, and development of additional paths to increase subscriber satisfaction.”
Available via a TV-as-a-Service (TVaaS) model, Ambient TV’s cloud-based media platform interfaces with the content delivery chain, including video headend servers, conditional access (CA) and digital rights management (DRM) systems, system monitoring, and client devices.
Some key features include management of content with metadata and subscriber data across broadcast and OTT system infrastructures, and an interactive advertising system that provides personalised content promotion and recommendation.
