Anevia helps VTC build new OTT service

The Vietnamese broadcaster launches the VTC Now app, and is the first broadcaster in Asia-Pacific to implement Anevia’s EDS solution

To address increasing audience demand for greater viewing flexibility, Vietnam Television Corporation (VTC), a Hanoi-based broadcaster, has launched a new over-the-top (OTT) service, VTC Now.

Available as a downloadable app on Apple and Google marketplaces, VTC Now utilises Anevia’s cloud digital video recorder (DVR), NEA-DVR with EDS, a hyper-convergent storage system designed for video.

NEA-DVR provides viewers with “unlimited recording” on every screen, and also reduces operational costs through its Infinite Buffer, which is capable of handling asset and storage management. To optimise storage, the solution only retains content that viewers have recorded, giving VTC four times more capacity in its infrastructure, said Anevia.

Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, project manager for VTC Now, said: “Our priority at VTC is to offer the best experience to our subscribers, and today this includes providing our new OTT service. We have been very impressed with the way the Anevia solution enables us to do this while giving us the flexibility to offer compelling new pricing models.”

For this project, Anevia worked alongside local partner BMTS Media Technology and Brightcove to offer VTC a mixed cloud-based service platform with an on-premise storage platform for streaming.

Grégory Samson, EVP of worldwide sales telco & media, Anevia, concluded: “We are delighted to make this contribution to VTC’s new OTT project, and work with Brightcove on the integration of NEA-DVR and EDS within the wider system. A few years ago, we made the strategic decision to address the Asia-Pacific market, and this latest win further builds our momentum in the region.”
