Blackmagic Design’s new ATEM supports HD, 4K/UHD productions

Featuring 4M/Es and 16 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers, the ATEM 4M/E Broadcast Studio 4K switcher can be deployed for action-filled sports events and live concerts

Blackmagic Design has released the ATEM 4M/E Broadcast Studio 4K switcher. Equipped with 20 inputs — 4M/Es and 16 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers — ATEM Broadcast Studio 4K features two 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) multiviewers, full 2D DVE (digital video effects), and is integrated with SuperSource compositing engines with four picture-in-picture DVEs.

The new ATEM 4M/E Broadcast Studio 4K switcher is designed to enable users to create live, switched, high frame rate (HFR) HD and 4K/UHD programmes at up to 60fps. Featuring 12G-SDI technology, the switcher can be linked to 2160p60 cameras via a single SDI cable. With multi-rate 12G-SDI connections, the switcher is compatible with existing HD equipment, as it is able to automatically switch to 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI and HD-SDI.

For keying and effects, the ATEM 4M/E Broadcast Studio 4K is equipped with 16 new advanced keyers, and four new ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers on each of the four mix effects rows. The new keyers feature adjustable on-screen controls for selecting and sampling a region of colour; adjustment controls for foreground, background and edges; and chroma correction tools for spill and flare suppression.

Additionally, Blackmagic Design is offering users of the previous ATEM 2M/E Broadcast Studio 4K model with a software upgrade, which will allow them to get twice as many mix effects and 16 new ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers added to their existing switcher.

Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, commented: “The new ATEM 4M/E Broadcast Studio 4K gives customers four mixing effects rows and 16 new ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers, in the same design as our previous 2M/E switcher. Users can now get a high-end live production switcher with more power and creative effects than ever before so they can produce incredible TV programmes.”
