Cobalt Digital, which designs and manufactures award-winning IP and 12G/6G/3G/HD/SD conversion, throwdown, and multiviewer technology for the production and broadcast television environment, has introduced openGear, an award winning, industry standard, modular terminal gear platform.
Cobalt Digital is a founding partner of this customer-centric, open-architecture platform, that allows users to select the best solution for their needs from multiple openGear manufacturing partners, all while maintaining a standardised rack frame form-factor and software GUI. It continues to be adopted by end users across a diverse range of markets.
The openGear system is based on a 2RU, 20-Slot “card cage” form that supports high-capacity redundant power supplies, dual genlock inputs and Gigabit Ethernet frame controller for use with the DashBoard remote control and monitoring software.
The frame controller resides in a dedicated 21st card slot which leaves 20 slots available and does not detract from the extreme densities that are achievable with Cobalt Digital’s processing and distribution cards.
All openGear processing cards (and the frame controller card as well) are hot-swappable; frame functions and other cards within the frame are not affected by the hot-swapping of any card in the frame. On its 25th anniversary, Cobalt Digital headed home from NAB 2022 with four awards. It received two Product of the Year awards from NAB as well as two Best of Show awards from Future — one from Next TV and the other from TVB Europe. The awards represent the scope of Cobalt’s global reach to all segments of a market that spans from broadcast to streaming to pro-AV.
