Creating a mutual force to present ASEAN to the world

Beach House Productions is collaborating with ASEAN member states to further enhance and raise the level of awareness and opportunities in the ASEAN film industry

While ASEAN is one of the most culturally diverse regions in the world, it is relatively untapped in terms of international exposure and there are still so many intriguing stories to tell, Jocelyn Little, managing director, Beach House Pictures (BHP), told APB.

She added: “Over the past 12 months, BHP showcased ASEAN to the world across many genres of content, and we have approached our strategy from two angles.”

The first is to look for stories that will appeal to international audiences, while the second angle involves employing different business models to fund the content, Little revealed.

The latter involves full commissions with platforms such as Discovery, National Geographic and the History Channel, as well as the building of co-productions relationships between regional and international partners.

Little is also heartened by the recent 14th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI), which has made it a priority to encourage co-production in the region.

“Between ASEAN member states, we need to foster more opportunities for producers to work together, gain experience and acquire new skills in production,” she concluded.

The full interview with Little can be found in the APB July 2018 issue.
