Crystal takes on Colem Communications to expand European reach

The agreement unites both companies’ experience in delivering network monitoring and control solutions to the broadcast and satellite markets

Crystal, a provider of monitoring and control software for video distribution over satellite, cable and the Internet, has taken over support of Colem Communications, a UK-based monitoring and control specialist.

The deal will see both companies combining their wealth of experience in delivering network monitoring and control solutions to the broadcast and satellite markets. This change in control, according to Crystal, will also enable the company to expand its product portfolio with Colem’s range of solutions, as well as increase its European presence.

Roger Franklin, CEO at Crystal, told APB: “This relationship will naturally expand our European reach; however, it will also form the basis for increasing our presence internationally. Asia-Pacific is in particular another important region for us, especially as the demand for over-the-top (OTT) is intensifying.

“In terms of solution-base, we already have a number of complimentary solutions. Together, this will enable our combined customers to have a more streamlined monitoring and control workflow, giving them an integrated and holistic view of their entire network, both in the control centre and at any number of remote locations.”

The agreement will also see Martin Coleman, former owner and managing director of Colem, dividing his time between his role as executive director of the Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) and using more than 40 years of knowledge as an independent consultant for the satellite industry.

Coleman added: “This move will be exceedingly positive for our existing customers, who will benefit from the bigger support network that Crystal can offer.

“While we always worked hard to be responsive on support issues, there is no denying that a bigger company can do that even more efficiently. Having worked with the team for many years, they are already familiar with the Colem solutions, so it will be an easy task for them to offer extensive support to customers using our solutions.”
