The purchase of camera equipment from Grass Valley will enable Cubic Production to deliver high-quality pictures in multiple formats, which is crucial for its sports production.
The UAE-based production company will deploy Grass Valley’s 86N WorldCam cameras and XCU Universe XF base stations for live events, concerts and various sports events
Cubic Production, a TV broadcast and production company based in the UAE, has equipped two of its outside broadcast (OB) vans with 20 86N WorldCam cameras and 20 XCU Universe XF base stations from Grass Valley. The equipment will be deployed for live events, concerts and various sports events — including soccer matches, horse racing and camel racing.
Muder Abu Fashah, CEO of Cubic Production, commented: “We selected the LDX 86N WorldCam cameras from Grass Valley because they offer the most technologically advanced quality for multiple formats. The cameras provide state-of-the-art picture quality and production flexibility, which is especially crucial for our sports productions.
“In addition, the cameras are software-upgradeable, which means we can use all of our 86N Series cameras at the same time in XtremeSpeed operation (6x super slow motion), when required.”
The project was assigned to systems integrator Wise Concepts, who selected Grass Valley’s solutions for the flexibility in the connectivity of the cameras. Fouad Hassoun, managing director at Wise Concepts, explained: “It’s where Quadlink 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) can be offered as well as 12G, IP and HD from the same XCU unit. The 86N WorldCam cameras produce native HD/3G quality, and can be upgraded to native 4K/UHD, HDR (high dynamic range), and high-speed acquisition with a GV-eLicence for the duration of the project without having to buy it permanently.
“The cradle concept of the XCU allows for easy moving of the cameras between different OB vans for flexibility and the highest utilisation.”
Following a successful installation, Cubic Production has revealed its plans to equip two more OB vans with another 20 Grass Valley cameras.
Jan-Pieter van Welsem, vice-president sales and marketing, EMEA, Grass Valley, concluded: “This significant purchase further secures Cubic Production’s position as the leader of live productions in the broadcast industry in the Middle East. They can confidently deliver the best quality among all their competitors with a flexible solution that allows them to take advantage of multiple formats, including IP, without changing anything on the camera side.”
