Core to redchillies.vfx post-production infrastructure are the EditShare EFS scale-out storage platform and Flow MAM system, which simplify post-production collaboration via automation
redchillies.vfx, the international post-production unit of Mumbai-headquartered Red Chillies Entertainment, has installed the EditShare EFS scale-out storage platform as its base infrastructure for all its future projects, including its upcoming project entitled Zero.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Zero is a visual effects-based movie, and requires redchillies.vfx to manage the complexities around the advanced visual-effects scenes. For this project, the post-production unit will rely on EditShare Flow media asset management (MAM) system.
Integrated with the EFS scale-out storage nodes, Flow provides key ingest, transcode, search and retrieve functions. Equipped with key automation capabilities, Flow also allows redchillies.vfx to minimise redundant tasks while automating complicated transactions, said EditShare.
Keitan Yadav, COO of redchillies.vfx, explained: “It is important for Red Chillies to be supported with best-of-breed solutions that can manage the challenges of our visual effects-heavy productions. EditShare was the only vendor to demonstrate support for 66 streams within a single node. This level of performance, combined with the ability to easily scale the system and manage the assets in collaboration, was key in the decision to make this investment.”
redchillies.vfx was founded in 2006 by Yadav, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Haresh Hingorani, with an aim to provide post-production services together with VFX services to the fraternity. Under this partnership, EditShare will link redchillies.vfx and non-linear editing (NLE) systems via the EFS storage platform.
Peter Lambert, Asia-Pacific sales director, EditShare, added: “For redchillies.vfx, this means centralising assets and providing tools to collaborate on building VFX scenes with the capability to playback complex VFX scenes in real time.”
