Es’hail-2 goes live

With a rising demand for HD channels in the MENA region, Es’hail-2, a dual-band satellite, was launched into space by Qatar satellite company — Es’hailSat. After its successful orbit experiments, the satellite is now securing commercial services to government, broadcast and telecommunications sectors across the Middle East and North Africa.

Es’hail-2 is equipped with both Ka-band spot beams and Ku-band wide beams, thereby providing secure and reliable broadband services.

The Ka-band spot beams bear a higher ‘Effective Isotropic Radiated Power’ and enable higher data throughput.

Therefore, broadcasters in the region are now seeking to leverage the reliability of the signals to provide HD and UHD content, and enhance the viewing experience of the consumers.

Apart from the ‘Ku & Ka bands’, the satellite also provides state-of-the-art anti-jamming capabilities for communications between B2B and government agencies through a multi-transponder Ka-band payload. Es’hail-2 thus adds on security to the communication and transmission network of the region.

Ali Al Kuwari, president and CEO of Es’hailSat, said: “I am extremely proud that Es’hail-2 has entered commercial service supporting customers in the Middle East and North Africa, and I thank the diligent and hardworking teams at Es’hailSat and Melco (MitsubishiElectric Co) for this success.”
