Fox Netherlands moves playout to TVT/DMC’s virtualised cloud platform

The Dutch Fox TV channel is the latest channel from Fox to move to TVT/DMC’s virtualised private broadcast cloud platform

TVT/DMC has been selected to enable the delivery of the Fox Netherlands channel to Dutch audiences. After the previous launch of 24 Kitchen, Fox Belgium and National Geographic, Fox Netherlands becomes the fourth channel that Fox Network Group is delivering via TVT/DMC’s virtualised private broadcast cloud platform.

Fox broadcasts a wide range of general entertainment content in The Netherlands, featuring TV series including American Horror Story, Empire, The Gifted, The Simpsons, and The Walking Dead. The channel is distributed using TVT/DMC’s European fibre network, which provides redundancy and disaster recovery management.

Jan de Vries, director broadcast operations, Fox Networks Group, said: “Content delivery that we can count on is fundamentally important to our operations. We need to be sure our programmes will always arrive to our audiences, when they are scheduled, and in the correct form.”

The all-IP cloud platform, launched officially in June this year, offers Fox “flexibility, scale and capacity”, and the potential to extend the type and quality of services available to Dutch audiences. By moving from broadcast hardware to a virtualised software-defined platform, TVT/DMC has built the platform to process video in real time, and directly connect to an all-IP world, offering a more agility approach.

Raymond Lamphen, senior vice-president, operations, TVT/DMC, concluded: “This year, we are completing an extraordinary journey, transforming the way we deliver our clients’ content. We see this as a true step-change in industry innovation, turning the classic SDI infrastructure into a fully operational virtualised pure-IP private broadcast cloud.

“The primary benefits for Fox in The Netherlands are enormous: it delivers the capability to adapt to new and growing demands of scale and capacity as required, responding to the complexities of the Dutch content market, and its growing demands for linear, on-demand and online entertainment media.”

DMC is a division of AMC Networks International, the global division of AMC Networks. In July this year, TVT acquired the Amsterdam-headquartered company, and formed TVT/DMC.
