Harmonic brings software-based approach to video delivery

At Convergence India, Harmonic is highlighting OTT video delivery and broadcast playout solutions

As over-the-top (OTT) video consumption continues to rise across the Asia-Pacific region, a growing number of pay-TV operators are recognising the benefits of adopting a software-centric approach to video delivery.

Identifying these benefits as increased efficiency, agility, flexibility and reduced costs, Tony Berthaud, vice-president of sales, APAC, Harmonic, said: “At Convergence India, Harmonic will showcase its latest software innovations for cloud media processing, low-latency OTT video distribution and channel-in-a-box capabilities, which speed up the delivery of new broadcast and multi-screen services.”

These innovations include the VOS SW Cluster cloud-based media processing software, which embeds media processing capabilities such as ingest, playout, compression, encryption, packaging and origin, while providing support for cloud and bare metal compute environments.

At booth 12A-E1, visitors can also check out the EyeQ content-aware encoding solution. With EyeQ, operators can reduce the bandwidth for OTT delivery by up to 50%, decrease CDN costs and provide a superior quality of experience — with reduced buffering and latency, according to Harmonic.

Other highlights include the Spectrum X media server platform and the Polaris Play automation system, which features channel-in-a-box (CiaB) capabilities. Harmonic’s CiaB solution is designed to speed up video distribution and enable new channels to be launched faster, and at a lower rate of ownership that standard ingest and playout systems.

Convergence India is taking place at the Pragati Maidan exhibition and convention centre in New Delhi from March 7-9.
