Harmonic envisions future of video delivery

In sync with the theme for BroadcastAsia2018, Capture the Future, Harmonic will be exhibiting its software-as-a-service (SaaS) media processing, all-IP workflows and 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) high dynamic range (HDR) streaming and playout solutions.
One of Harmonic’s highlights at the show includes the VOS 360 media processing SaaS, which is designed to unify the entire media processing chain to allow operators to launch new over-the-top (OTT) offerings. A new feature that the company will present is cloud-based channel origination, which enables media operators to create and deliver channels with greater flexibility.
Harmonic will also demonstrate its EyeQ encoding solution, which has the ability to reduce bandwidth requirements for OTT delivery by up to 50%, decrease content delivery network (CDN) costs while improving quality of experience (QoE), says Harmonic.
In addition, Harmonic will exhibit its new 4K/UHD HDR solution for live sports streaming with low latency using the Common Media Application Format (CMAF) standard. This solution features Harmonic’s ViBE CP9000 HD/UHD contribution encoder for ingest into the cloud, and VOS 360 for encoding, packaging, origin and OTT distribution.
Spectrum X advanced media service is another solution Harmonic plans to highlight at booth 4S2-01. Equipped with the capability of simplifying production and broadcast workflows, Spectrum X manages a wide range of ingest, playout and distribution operations.
Furthermore, Harmonic will demonstrate how Spectrum X, alongside the Electra media processor, support SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE ST 2022-6 and SMPTE ST 2022-7 suite of standards, thus enabling video content and service providers to make their transition to IP workflows for both uncompressed and compressed delivery of live broadcast, OTT, IPTV and video-on-demand (VoD).
