The company’s software-based solutions manage Foxtel’s 4K/UHD production and delivery workflows
Australian pay-TV operator Foxtel has launched its first 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) service in the country using Harmonic’s software-based 4K/UHD solution. The deployment of Harmonic’s solution has allowed Foxtel to maximise its workflow efficiencies while ensuring video quality at low bitrates for its next-generation TV services.
Darren Windus, distribution systems manager at Foxtel, commented: “Video quality, high dynamic range (HDR) support and reliability were our key considerations when choosing a technology partner. Harmonic has a track record of delivering video quality and deployment support, making this an easy business decision for Foxtel. When we are ready to introduce HDR to this new service, Harmonic’s software-centric approach to video delivery will make it a simple, quick upgrade.”
Harmonic manages the entire 4K/UHD production and delivery workflow for Foxtel’s new service using the Electra video processor for live 4K/UHD HEVC/H.265 encoding, the ProStream X stream processor for scrambling, and the RD9000 decoder to achieve video quality for broadcast contribution.
Tony Berthaud, vice-president of sales, Asia-Pacific, Harmonic, concluded: “With 4K/UHD’s improved resolution, Foxtel’s viewers can now feel like they are standing on the field during live sports events and become immersed in the latest movies. Our video processing solutions are at the heart of many 4K/UHD service offerings around the world, and we’re proud to be leading the charge for stunning video experiences.”
