As the newest member to Harmonic’s VOS family, VOS SW Cluster leverages advancements in software and cloud technology, enhancing media companies’ OTT and IPTV workflows
Harmonic has developed VOS SW Cluster, a software application that is aimed at addressing the need for increased agility and adaptability for over-the-top (OTT) and IPTV deployments. Comprising several media processing functions — including ingest, playout, compression, encryption, packaging and origin — VOS SW Cluster can be deployed by video content and service providers for the origination and delivery of IPTV and OTT services.
VOS SW Cluster is designed as an infrastructure-independent media processing application, enabling operators to switch between datacentre computing, public clouds and private clouds. In addition, the application allows operators to enhance their OTT workflows, including live publishing to social media online platforms, streaming video-on-demand (VoD) from live and file sources, and delivery via the common media application format (CMAF) specification.
Tim Warren, senior vice-president and CTO, video business, Harmonic, added: “The VOS SW Cluster offering expands upon the flexibility and agility of our VOS Cloud media processing application, enabling operators to be even more nimble in using datacentre resources. With the VOS SW Cluster solution, video content and service providers can handle every step of the media processing chain using datacentres, the cloud, or both, to launch services faster and deliver high-quality IPTV and OTT content to every screen.”
Harmonic’s VOS family also includes VOS 360 media processing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), which utilises the VOS SW Cluster solution, and VOS Engine, an advanced software module.
