Imagine Communications advances in 4K/UHD and IP technologies

To help media companies successfully navigate an industry in transition, Imagine Communications will be demonstrating its innovations in IP processing and 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) playout.

4K/UHD and high dynamic range (HDR), according to Imagine Communications, has the potential to attract significant audiences, particularly around major live events and blockbuster programming. To support such high resolution programmes, Imagine Communications will be presenting a complete 4K/UHD playout and master control chain utilising Versio Platform microservices-based integrated playout software, advanced graphics, content management and automation tools — showcasing ingest from SDI, as well as from multiple SMPTE ST 2110 IP streams.

Versio provides automated and integrated multi-channel playout functionality, including internally upconverted HD-to-4K/UHD output, while performing dynamic graphics with DVE, as well as advanced audio track routing.

Imagine will also showcase Selenio Network Processor (SNP), an FPGA-based 1RU solution which is able to function as both an SDI-to-IP gateway and an all-IP-capable signal processing platform. Working in conjunction with the Magellan SDN Orchestrator software control system, the SNP demonstration will illustrate a real-world installation, which switches and interworks between HD, 4K/UHD and uncompressed SMPTE ST 2110 streams.

Completing Imagine’s showcase at BroadcastAsia2018 is the Epic MV multiviewer, which provides a single canvas for mixed signal types. Designed to provide a transition path to an IP future, Epic MV will be shown combining HD, 4K/UHD and IP inputs into a single, synchronised display.

The demonstrations of Versio, SNP and Epic MV are all powered by Zenium, Imagine’s microservices-based software platform. Imagine will be presenting these solutions in collaboration with two partner companies: Broadcast Engineering Services at booth 6F3004 and Broadcast Technology at booth 4T1-01.
