IMDA, STB & Informa Tech to launch mega flagship tech event for Asia in 2021

Singapore tech regulator Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and events organiser Informa Tech have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) to launch a mega flagship tech event for Asia in 2021.

Slated for the second half of the year, the first edition of this new hybrid event will bring together the government, businesses in the infocomms industry, the media and tech ecosystem, start-ups, enterprise communities and global titans of tech under one roof.

The partnership, according to the three organisations in a press statement, will feature “a series of events and activities that will celebrate innovation and talent; and set the agenda on digital transformation, diversity and governance in the tech sector”.

The hybrid event will combine Informa Tech’s international reach, networks and events infrastructure alongside IMDA’s and STB’s local market expertise, and is positioned as a platform for the international tech and enterprise communities to congregate in Asia.

“This tech event provides government and policy makers, business and tech leaders a platform to exchange dialogue, discuss technology trends, opportunities and challenges to bring about increased collaborations and mutual benefits for the region and internationally,” said Howie Lau, Assistant Chief Executive, Media & Innovation Group, IMDA.

“Singapore is well positioned to host such an event as Asia continues to grow in technological influence and has seen the rise of many indigenous digital players, including Grab, SEA Group and Gojek, fuelled by a burgeoning tech-savvy user base and a thriving digital ecosystem.”

Yap Chin Siang, Deputy Chief Executive, STB, said: “We are re-imagining Singapore as a preferred destination for safe, trusted and innovative MICE events. That is why we look forward to working with IMDA and Informa Tech, and to strengthen our reputation as a centre for knowledge, innovation and economic exchange in the Asia-Pacific.”

Carolyn Dawson, Managing Director, Informa Tech, added: “We are thrilled to partner with IMDA and STB to co-create an event that will provide the platform for innovators across Asia, and Singapore as the region’s tech hub, to shine among the international tech community.”
