Intelsat unveils Mobile Reach Manage service

Mobile Reach Manage is a new managed service from Intelsat that allows mobile network operators to expand their coverage into suburban and rural areas

When looking to extend reach, mobile networks operators (MNOs) are faced with business and geographic challenges, particularly when they are looking to expand coverage into sites located in regions outside of the main cities and adjacent suburban areas.

To address this issue, Intelsat has introduced Mobile Reach Manage, an end-to-end managed service that enables MNOs to deploy their 2G/3G/4G network infrastructure into areas once considered unreachable. The new service, which is available in countries across Asia-Pacific, North America and Latin America, will be rolled out globally too.

“With Mobile Reach Manage, Intelsat is eliminating the difficulty and expense often associated with expanding network infrastructure in the more remote and rural areas of the world,” claimed Philipp Gillet, vice-president and general manager, networks, Intelsat.

He explained: “By including Mobile Reach Manage in their network planning strategy, MNOs will get an end-to-end, cellular backhaul managed service solution that meets quality of service requirements, and delivers increased flexibility and speed when it comes to network deployments. As a result, they will be able to increase customer satisfaction, profitably grow their business and reduce churn.”

Designed as a space-based cellular backhaul solution, Mobile Reach Manage offers MNOs a connectivity service from any Radio Access Network (RAN) site to the MNO Core. This, according to Intelsat, enables MNOs to close their business case and make quality coverage available to more communities globally.

“Space-based platforms are essential to closing the digital divide, and with Mobile Reach Manage, MNOs will be able to demonstrate to governments and regulators that they can close the coverage gaps, and attain their Universal Service obligations,” Gillet concluded.
