IP goes live in action with Pebble Beach Systems

The company will be partnering several vendors to demonstrate IP interoperability at the IP Playout Pod this IBC2018

Bringing IP into action this IBC2018 is Pebble Beach Systems, who will be highlighting a range of solutions that performs across multiple IP standards.

At the IP Playout Pod, a Pebble Beach Systems initiative, the company will showcase SMPTE ST 2022-6/7, SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, and the NMOS suite of standards in a playout chain architected for IBC. Some vendors featured in this demonstration include Arista Networks, Embrionix, AJA Video Systems, Vizrt, Tektronix, Newtek, Matrox, Atos and Suitcase TV.

Miroslav Jeras, head of software architecture, Pebble Beach Systems, explained: “As broadcasters seek to transition to IP architectures, they are understandably seeking to work with those vendors who can demonstrate working solutions and who have experience in this space. With a number of installations and a managed migration strategy, Pebble is ideally placed to share its expertise with media companies who are investigating this path.”

As part of the IP playout demonstration, Pebble Beach Systems will also be showcasing a new open standard event and tally protocol for signalling events in real time. Under development as part of the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) initiative, this is a vendor-agnostic protocol that allows for the exchange of signals across a network, much as GPI triggers have traditionally been used.

For broadcasters, this protocol offers interoperability between systems built using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware in a software-based IP/NMOS environment, with tally indicators signalling when a state is changed or in response to user actions.

“In addition to demonstrating this new protocol, we are also working on an Audio Channel Mapping API to deliver interoperability in audio workflow control within an NMOS environment,” Miroslav added. “The goal is to enable end-users and integrators building systems out of IP-connected off-the-shelf hardware and software processors to achieve a level of interoperability in audio workflow control functions. This commitment to open standards and interoperability is fundamental to Pebble’s approach, and we’re looking forward to showing and discussing these developments at IBC2018.”

Pebble Beach Systems will be exhibiting at booth 8.B68 during IBC2018, which will be held from September 13-18 at the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
