Israeli satellite broadcaster YES has adopted Harmonic’s Electra VS solution to meet the increasing demand for 4K/UHD HDR content.
YES has over a million subscribers and is now able to launch 4K/UHD HDR channel using Harmonic’s Electra system
YES, a broadcast satellite television provider in Israel, has deployed Harmonic’s software-based Electra encoding platform for the delivery of its new 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) channel.
Equipped with high-efficiency video coding (HEVC)/H.265 support, the Electra system enables YES to deliver 4K/UHD high dynamic range (HDR) linear video content to its subscribers at “lowest possible bitrates”.
Using the Electra VS solution, YES is able to capitalise on the increased consumer demand for 4K/UHD content, thus differentiating itself from other content providers by also delivering video in HDR.
The software-based system allows operators at YES to input and encode live 4K/UHD SDI and IP streams. The Electra encoding platform also includes ProStream X video stream processor for DVB-CSAV3 encryption and NMX network management.
Itzhak Elyakim, CTO for YES, said: “Our goal was to become the first broadcaster in the region to deliver 4K/UHD HDR live content, including popular sports events. Harmonic’s expertise in compression efficiency has helped us to achieve that goal.
“We chose Harmonic’s Electra video system for encoding based on the picture quality and bandwidth efficiency it is able to provide for 4K/UHD live broadcast. YES has been a Harmonic customer for many years, and we appreciate that their solution is based on a scalable design that will make it easy to expand our 4K/UHD channel line-up.”
