MediaKind understands humankind

MediaKind, launched on July 10 last year as the new brand identity for Ericsson Media Solutions, is a joint venture between One Equity Partners and Ericsson — and the company continues to draw upon Ericsson’s 150-year heritage of bringing humankind together through pioneering fixed and mobile communications.

At 2019 NAB Show, MediaKind launched its cloud-based live Cygnus 360°-as-a-Service (360aaS), thereby enabling TVoperators and content creators as well as owners to engage consumers with an innovative and immersive viewing experience of live sporting and music events

Chiranjeev Singh, MediaKind’s APAC director of marketing, said: “As it is a cloud-based pay-per-event service, there is no need for heavy upfront investment and on-site equipment normally required for live 360° video processing and delivery.

“Cygnus 360aaS solution enables consumers to become fully immersed and engaged in their favourite live content.”

He explained this could be achieved through enhanced 360° video coverage, either directly via a head-mounted device or viewed on a multi-screen device as a companion to existing HD or UHD broadcast or streamed services.

With MediaKind’s 360aaS solution, operators and content owners can now efficiently capture and process high-quality live 360° video at up to 8K resolution and deliver immersive content to the consumer with delivery bitrates of between 10Mbps and 15Mbps. And from a single high-grade contribution source, live 360° video can be processed and delivered into suitable resolutions and formats for simultaneous live publishing to an operator’s app over public CDN as well as via social media platforms.

The 360aaS service comes with MediaKind’s technical support and monitoring throughout the staging and broadcasting of the event; thus, it reduces delivery risk and the need for operators or service providers to place experienced staff on-site.

With mega live events becoming an important source of revenues, the ability to have tools to allow fans of live sports, eSports and music to self-curate and become more engaged in their favourite content does open new monetisation opportunities while reducing churn.
