Nagra secures kbro’s 4K/UHD content

Taiwanese cable operator kbro will once again leverage Nagra’s expertise in content protection for the launch of its new 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) service on Android TV

A Nagra customer since 2009, kbro has been deploying Nagra Connect on top of its existing Nagra conditional access and OpenTV over-the-top (OTT) backend platform. The implementation of Nagra’s solutions has enabled the cable operator to fulfil content protection requirements, including early release content.

Alex Hsieh, kbro’s CTO, commented: “As a supplier of content protection solutions, Nagra has a track record of delivering robust security solutions that are endorsed by the studios, and protect businesses from piracy.

“As such, Nagra was the clear choice to secure our new deployment … and it requires minimal upgrade to our existing platform; this gives us the peace of mind that our 4K/UHD content investment remains secure.”

Designed as a conditional access system (CAS) and digital rights management (DRM) solution for connected set-top boxes and smart TVs, Nagra Connect has the capability to protect broadcast, IPTV and OTT services by leveraging an adaptive security paradigm to protect any content, on any network and any devices, said Nagra.

The solution complies with MovieLabs’ Enhanced Content Protection (ECP) requirements for 4K/UHD content, and leverages the MediaCAS API to integrate into the Android TV ecosystem, a feature supported across the security clients of Nagra and Conax product lines.

Stéphane Le Dréau, senior vice-president of sales for Asia-Pacific, Nagra, said: “We are delighted to expand our partnership with kbro, and secure their new 4K/UHD service and upcoming Android TV deployment.

“Our content production solutions enable kbro to fulfil their commitment to content providers, and ensure the integrity of premium 4K/UHD content as well as content in all forms, on any network and any device.

“We look forward to supporting kbro as they grow their service.”
