A new media lab equipped with 5G, 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) and artificial intelligence (AI) has opened its doors in Shanghai by CMG, a broadcasting platform made up of China Central Television (CCTV), China Radio International (CRI) and China National Radio (CNR).
Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, pointed out at the inauguration ceremony that since the merger of CCTV, CNR and CRI, CMG has set the “5G+4K/UHD+AI” strategy as a new engine for the development of its operations.
While the establishment of the new lab is to develop an innovative media platform with global influence, he believes that Shanghai’s technological innovation, software and hardware environment as well as education and scientific research resources will enhance the development of domestic radio, television and multimedia.
The first project which the lab will embark on is a six-episode 4K/UHD documentary series entitled Thirty Years in Pudong. Production of the documentary has already commenced, and the series is scheduled to be aired in April 2020 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening up of Shanghai Pudong New Area.
The series will highlight the achievements in the area, and look into the future with new interpretations of the area’s policies and plans.
