NHK World, the international broadcasting service from Japanese public broadcaster NHK, has launched a multilingual video-on-demand (VoD) service.
With an aim to expand viewing opportunities for global audience in anticipation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games, the service provides informative programmes for tourists visiting the country.
Starting this month, viewers will be able to access five programmes — Journeys in Japan, Tokyo Eye 2020, #Tokyo, Wild Hokkaido!, and Easy Travel Japanese — in various languages. For instance, #Tokyo is available in Chinese, Spanish, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian, while Wild Hokkaido! is available in Chinese and Korean.
NHK World is available on TV, mobile app and PC via the website. Particularly, the NHK World website has included Chinese subtitles in two travel programmes since the second half of last year. Similar with its English-language VoD service, each episode is available for free for a year from the date uploaded.
