Now TV, a pay-TV service in Hong Kong and the media entertainment arm of Hong Kong telco HKT, has integrated over-the-top (OTT) services onto its IPTV platform. This integration is made possible via a collaboration with Amino, whereby the latter’s software stack – including Amino OS and Amino Engage – is used to integrate Now TV’s IPTV services with OTT on its Android TV box, Now H1.
With Now H1, viewers can access OTT services like HBO Go, Netflix, Red Bull TV, Bloomberg and Deutsche Welle within the same platform with an Android TV user experience.
Derek Choi, Managing Director for HKT Home, commented, “By converging the TV and OTT worlds, Amino has helped Now H1 redefine the viewing experience for Hong Kong consumers by providing a modern Android TV user experience that combines Now TV content with pre-loaded OTT services such as HBO Go, ViuTV, Viu, Netflix, Red Bull TV and Deutsche Welle.”
Designed as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) service management solution, Amino Engage simplifies Now TV’s device and app management to deliver enhanced customer service, experience and insight into video consumption metrics for monetisation. As for Amino OS, it is a device software that enables operators to deliver a viewing experience that integrates OTT and IPTV.
Donald McGarva, CEO of Aferian Group, which owns Amino, added, “As a long-standing Now TV technology partner, we spend a lot of time talking to them so that we know exactly where they want to be next week, next month and in one or more years’ time.
“We knew that Now TV needed a combination of the user experience of pay-TV and the user-friendly and wide choice of OTT streaming, and that’s exactly what Amino software has delivered – an exciting best of both worlds TV and video service.”
