Origin buys MCR Broadcast Hire to offer ‘production2post’ service

Origin Film & Television, a broadcast and post-production equipment rental outfit specialising in workflow design and engineering, has acquired the assets of MCR Broadcast Hire, and is taking on its staff and business with immediate effect.
The acquisition, according to Origin, will allow the company to bring on board the experience and expertise of the MCR team in digital cinema cameras, RF for outside broadcast and professional audio.
Liam Wife, Origin’s founder, added, “[The acquisition] will reinforce Origin’s existing team, ensuring a complete end-to-end offering, from production through to post.
“We have been working with MCR for a while and we are all excited by this acquisition. It also adds considerable new inventory and supports our strong five-year growth plan.”
Established in 2020, Origin offers broadcast and post-production equipment rental, cloud, virtualised and remote services. The company also offers cutting-edge project design, support and engineering to live production, reality and factual entertainment shows, as well as film and long-form drama.
Mike Ransome, who founded MCR Broadcast in 2019, added, “I’ve worked with the team at Origin for some time and I know they can take the company to the next level.”
Following the acquisition, Ransome will act as consultant to Origin and help the company oversee over 120 projects worldwide.
Wife added, “The acquisition will place Origin in a unique position, uniting our team’s core workflow skillsets with the point of capture. This will mean we can provide a true end-to-end production solution.”
