Earlier this year, Cartoon Network launched two pop-up channels in Singapore and Manila, along with their respective local pay-TV partners Singtel and Cignal respectively. The pop-up channels offer subscribers and non-subscribers to view its series outside their main networks.
James Crossland, senior vice-president of International Operations for Turner, a WarnerMedia company, said: “We’re always looking to offer our broadcast partners innovative platforms to showcase our content and it’s important to everyone that the technical services are seamless and hitch-free.”
Globecast optimised its existing media management, playout and content archiving agreement in accord with WarnerMedia to provide technical services for the channels. The content was first supplied by WarnerMedia from London to Globecast’s ingest and playout systems in Singapore. After automatically ingesting the content, Globecast would archive the content and restore the playout daily.
Furthermore, it would highlight any missing material in advance of the playout. Distribution to the affiliates was transmitted by existing WarnerMedia satellite capacity.
To ensure jitter-free broadcasting, Globecast solutions provide 24/7 complete pop-up channel monitoring, even while on air.
“This was an exciting project and we expect to see more of these requirements on a global basis,” said Shakunt Malhotra, VP of Operations, Globecast Asia.
Malhotra continued: “Cartoon Network leveraged our expertise to manage content and our optimised workflow, which was ideal for quick launch and smooth operation.
“This project was an excellent way to maximise content use and therefore ROI while extending brand reach.”
