Shotoku debuts SmartPedVR at 2018 NAB Show

The combination of built-in VR tracking capabilities with robotic pedestal aims to address the creative and commercial demands of on-air environments

Shotoku USA, Shotoku Broadcast Systems’ North American operation, will be highlighting SmartPedVR, the virtual reality (VR)/augmented reality (AR)-enabled version of its SmartPed that combines built-in VR tracking capabilities with its robotic pedestal.

Already installed in some European and Central American facilities, SmartPedVR is designed for deployment in VR/AR environments, and is based on Shotoku’s SmartPed robotic XY pedestal, which addresses the creative and commercial demands of on-air environments.

The addition of VR tracking provides 3D position information, including orientation, and is provided in remote or local operations with seamless switching between modes.

James Eddershaw, managing director at Shotoku UK, says: “All Shotoku robotic systems are VR/AR-capable, but NAB will see the first official demonstrations of SmartPedVR at a US industry event, which is so appropriate considering the success that SmartPed has enjoyed across Central and North America.”

Shotoku USA will be exhibiting at booth C9015 during the 2018 NAB Show, which will take place from April 7-12 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in Nevada, USA.
