The collaboration will create IP networking technologies for 4K/UHD and HD live production applications, and provide a wider range of solutions to support media companies’ IP transition, said both companies
Sony Imaging Products and Solutions and Cisco have entered into a strategic alliance with an aim to create IP networking technologies for 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) and HD live production applications in the broadcast, media and entertainment industries. The agreement, according to both companies, will provide customers worldwide an expanded range of flexible and reliable IP systems.
Sony has been supporting the broadcast industry’s transition to IP by delivering 4K/UHD and HD studio cameras, outside broadcast (OB) trucks, and remote production solutions for the broadcast live production market. In addition, more than 70 companies have supported Sony’s IP Live Alliance initiative that ensures interoperability between products and solutions from Sony and other vendors.
Masakazu Murata, general manager, media segment business division, Sony, explained that the combination of Sony’s strengths in advanced broadcast equipment with Cisco’s IP networking technologies will enable Sony to expand its 4K/UHD and HD IP live production solutions.
As a provider of IP networking solutions, Cisco has developed Professional Media Network (PMN) solutions for the media and entertainment industries, including the Nexus 9000 series switches and Data Centre Network Manager (DCNM).
Yousuf Khan, vice-president of technical marketing, INSBU, Cisco, concluded: “This announcement demonstrates how our long-standing relationship with Sony is growing, and continues to add value to our customers. Our collaboration for live 4K/UHD and HD marries the best of both technology platforms, and helps us to meet the needs our customers have today to up-level their broadcast production.”
