Titan powers Telia Estonia’s OTT service

The software-based Titan distribution solution will enable Telia Estonia to deliver live channels

Telia Estonia, a telco operating in the Baltics, has selected Ateme’s Titan distribution solution to compress and package its over-the-top (OTT) offering. This project is aimed at extending the reach of HD services throughout Estonia and introduces new packaging formats.

The implementation of Titan will enable Telia Estonia to enhance its OTT offerings and distribute live channels. Designed as a software-based encoder, Titan can be operated on a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) or virtualised server. And with the integrated E3 CPU-GPU processing capabilities of the visual compute accelerator (VCA) boards, Titan is able to deliver up to 60 HD profiles per RU and reduce power consumption while maintaining encoding fidelity.

Telia Estonia will also deploy Ateme’s Stream algorithms to maintain content fidelity at minimum bitrate, enabling the telco to extend the reach of its HD profiles to remote household while improving the quality of service, said Ateme.

Oliver Mändla, broadcast solutions team leader at Telia Estonia, said: “When looking to expand our existing OTT channels offering, the key requirement was compression efficiency, backup requirements, and solution simplicity. We can survive complete loss of one site and have automatic switchover to a backup site without customers even noticing.

“The choice of Ateme’s solution not only meets all our technical and cost-related requirements, but also provides intuitive and predictive operations, a committed roadmap and a future-proof all-inclusive engagement model.”
